I shot the Ducati Mach 2.0 Scrambler around the Northern Beaches with Nigel Crowley for Road Rider a few months back. It was a great spot for some sunrise beach static photos but the locations we'd tagged for the road shots didn't work out as well as expected. But you gotta do what you gotta do and we found somewhere that gave up what we wanted in the end. Great to see one of the shots make the cover of the next issue...
Winterfest at Richmond was pretty cool. Weather was beautiful and there's nothing like a bit of jousting, hand to hand combat and falconry to put a smile on your face. I took the D750 and 70-200/2.8VRII because I'd been having a few wobbles with them recently and wanted to see whether it would play nicely with me as those two bits of kit will likely come on holiday with me in a couple of months. I didn't have any noticeable issues with them so here's hoping the issues (shutte
If all you see of Half Light is FB and Insta, it would be reasonable to think that all I shoot is bikes but misleading 'cos I shoot a lot of other stuff but have always been reluctant to post non-bike photos cos I figure most people watch Half Light for bikes and bikes alone. If you check out the Smugmug galleries you'll see that there's a lot more than just bikes. Here's the thing, my background is wildlife photography and I was doing that for a good 6 years before I started
Starting to write occasional blog posts, even if no one's actually aware that I'm doing it yet, is just part of me trying to get all of my online ducks lined up. Half Light started on Facebook, an Insta account followed a while later - although I didn't really start using it in anger until a year or so ago - and this here website appeared somewhere along the line to pull things together. And then there's my SmugMug site where I host all the photos which predates the existence
Looking forward to seeing some of the photos from the MotoGP race at Assen ‘cos that was one of the best races most of us will ever see. As a photographer, it’s always a challenge to capture the dynamic of a complete race in a handful of photos. Marquez’s winning time was a little over 41 minutes; a good photo with a decent bit of movement in it would be taken at maybe 1/400sec. Do the math – I keep ending up with zeroes where I don’t expect them – but whichever way you look
This whole website needed a bit of a refresh as I'd pretty much left it to rot for a couple of years. But here I am, bigger (yes I need to lose weight) and better (subjectively) than ever so I might even try posting more regularly. I did have a mind to create a blog and call it FML (F**k My Light) but that seemed a bit too much like a one shot joke so it didn't happen.
Anyway, right now I'm writing this to an audience of one. Me. So I better stop before I lose any more of
